Tamahere Model Country School is an Enviro School, which means we have a contract signed with Enviroschools and follow a programme that supports children and young people to plan, design and implement sustainable actions.
Enviroschools NZ is a nationwide programme that empowers young people to take action on sustainability through hands-on environmental education. It uses a whole-school approach, where students, teachers, and the wider community work together to plan and implement projects that make their school and community healthier and more sustainable. The programme is student-led and focuses on connecting with nature, learning through exploration, and building skills for an environmentally conscious future.
Adrienne, our Enviro School facilitator, can come in and plan alongside our teams. If you would like to contact Adrienne Grant, please email: adrienne.grant@waikatoregion.govt.nz.
There are lots of amazing resources on the Enviro School Website https://enviroschools.org.nz

We are committed to achieving sustainable practices at school and in our wider community. These practices are woven throughout our school vision, connecting with – I value others and the environment, and the students enjoy the ‘Tidy Kiwi Award’, which is presented to the class with the tidiest space. We currently have Enviro Warriors (leaders from Maungatautari) leading projects around our school. All students have the opportunity to opt into Enviro School on projects including rat trapping, worm farms, fruit and vegetable gardening and the lizard garden.
As well as being an Enviro School, we are also a Para Kore School, which means we are actively trying to reduce our waste and make sustainable choices through our actions. We have been introducing ‘Zero Waste’ events at our school, such as Pumpkin Night.

When on duty, please make sure you pick up any rubbish that you see around our grounds – modelling this behaviour for our students 😀.
