Tamahere Tupu Our School Starters Program

Tupu are buds. The children who attend our Tamahere Tupu group are the Tupu of our school. They will be nurtured and grow with us as they prepare to begin their school journey.

Through a series of visits to our school before their fifth birthday and school start date, our tamariki will become familiar with the rhythms and routines of school life here at Tamahere Model County School. The visits are based around a typical morning routine in a new entrant classroom with some time set aside to explore and get to know the school environment, make connections with their future teacher and classmates, experience break times at school and meet other children and staff from throughout the school.

Making the transition to school a positive and smooth experience is important to us. We want our Tupu to come to school full of enthusiasm, ready to blossom, grow and learn in a familiar and welcoming environment.

School Starters Programme “Tamahere Tupu”

We value a positive and smooth transition experience for students enrolling at our school. We have developed a School Starters Programme known as “Tamahere Tupu”. Tupu are buds. The children who attend our Tamahere Tupu group are the Tupu of our school.

Within this special programme, your child will be nurtured to grow and prosper in the school environment as they prepare to begin their educational journey at Tamahere School.

Tamahere Tupu will provide your child with a series of visits prior to their fifth birthday. During this time, they will:

• become familiar with school and new entrant classroom morning routines
• have opportunities to explore and understand the school environment
• make connections with their future classroom teacher and peers
• experience morning tea break at school
• meet other children and staff at our school
