Welcome to the Tamahere School Library

Your librarian is Mrs Theresa Kewish
(Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 7.30 am-3.00 pm)

  • Each class visits our library once a week and students are able to browse, read and issue 2 books.(this is flexible) The expectation of your class library visits are….students browse, read and issue books. It is not a time to finish off work or be on devices. Each class issues a class library set each week and changes the books either weekly or fortnightly.
  • Each class can also issue books to have in a class library.
  • The book lending period is 2 weeks.
  • The library is open at all times except during morning tea time.
  • Tuesday and Thursday lunchtimes there is Lego Club in the library. All students are welcome to come and play with Lego.
  • Book Week and dress up as a children’s book character is usually during Term 4 each year. Teachers/staff dress up as a children’s book character as well.
  • The Scholastic Book Fair is held in Term 3 or 4 each year.

 

Tamahere School Library Services

  • Reading advisories (for students who are reluctant readers or stuck on genres ) and student help to find books.
  • I read a picture book to every class on arrival and help students with book selection.
  • Help in choosing class read aloud books.
  • Teachers notes for books provided on request.
  • Student library orientations lessons – how to use the library, dewey decimal system, how to find topic books, how to use the OPAC.
  • Packages will be put together on request on curriculum topics, class topics i:e respect, alliteration, Olympics, famous people etc.
  • There will always be displays in the library that support the curriculum. Matariki, Anzac Day, NZ Children’s Book awards, Authors, Genres, Olympics etc.
  • Request a particular book or books on subjects/authors at tkewish@tamahere.school.nz
  • One on one lesson on the MUSAC Edge Library Manager system if required.
  • Teacher’s resource folder (picture books to teach) can be found on the issue desk in the library. This can also be shared in Google Docs if required.
  • Library Blog – audio stories and books, information websites for homework help, author/book links, tips for parents to help support children’s reading (find this on the school website).
  • Summer reading – with a signed permission form year 2,3,4,5 students may issue up to 15 books over the summer holidays (books due back during the first week back).
  • I also run the STEPS literacy programme from 8 am-9 am Monday-Thursday.
